Atlas of the Collaborative City

The Atlas of the Collaborative City shortlisted entry for the 2020 AA (AUS) Unbuilt Work competition.

What we ask you to consider here is not an idea for a building, but a proposal to reconsider the way we design, to reframe our approach and help implement a course towards a fair and sustainable future. The Atlas of the Collaborative City is the presentation of years of research, prototyping and application of a method of collaborative and participatory design for achieving this.'

The technique behind the Atlas of the Collaborative City is what we call Collaborative Place Design. It takes up the challenge to truly embed shared human and ecological values in urban planning and urban design decision-making. To help redress the imbalance of our current system. It starts by recognising that our job is no longer to try and tell, no longer to consider ourselves authors, but to improve listening and mobilise the powerful wellspring of values in our communities. It democratises design, prioritising listening in order to generate the licence we need to fully implement and realise the socially and ecologically regenerative potential of design'
